Amber Sixberry“And having done all, to STAND.” Eph.6:13
I’ve been going to church ever since I was little. It took a lot of growing through Christ to get to where I am today. When I was about 8 years old, I remember going forward and saying a prayer. I never fully understood salvation at the time. I just said a prayer and didn’t really know why. Of course as I got older I had a perfect understanding of salvation. I knew that I said a prayer when I was younger, but I also knew that Christ was definitely not living in me. Something was missing. But I went for years knowing I needed to get saved. Pride kept me from admitting the truth, but only for awhile.
On August 21, 2001 at our church Children’s Camp, I accepted Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I felt like 1,000 pounds had been lifted off my back. How foolish to be ashamed of admitting you’re lost and need Christ. I now had the joy that my friends in Christ had. I didn’t have to fake it anymore. Now it was time for real growth to begin.
I graduated from the Fulton Heights Christian School in 2004. I went on and attended Commonwealth Baptist College in Lexington, KY for a year. I then felt that the Lord was leading me back to serve at my home church. Although I was only at college for a year I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The Lord matured and showed so much in that short amount of time. Which may I add…? IS NOT an easy job! I’m so thankful I followed my Pastor’s advice and went. What a blessing it was.
I am currently serving at my home church, the Grace Bible Baptist Church in Fulton, NY. I’m involved in the nursery, choir, and bus ministries. I also have been a counselor at our church Children’s Camp for the past 3 years, and plan to continue as long as the Lord allows. This is a blessing because if it wasn’t for that ministry I would have never gotten saved. I am still single and awaiting the next phase God has for my life. This is prayerfully, marriage. But no matter what, with God’s help, I will continue to stay faithful and serve.
My Pastor has helped me so much through the years. His preaching, wisdom and counsel are a great blessing! I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without my Pastor. I also appreciate the help and prayers of my parents. I’m thankful to have the privilege of growing up in a Christian home. I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without them. My church family is also a great blessing. I would never have made it if I didn’t have the many great influences God brought into my life. But, most of all I owe everything to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I’m just a sinner saved by grace, but He continues to use me. He is still teaching and maturing me. The best life that can be lived, is one that Christ leads.
